Generating Effective Group & Interpersonal Behavior Skills

To assist in learning to successfully work together in groups, focusing on how we talk with each other and which verbal skills lead to high and low performance in a situation is important. We will learn these 11 categories and practice using them.

Exercise Buddies

This is a warm up exercise for people to get to know each other and form groups. Each participant will find a buddy they do not know and keep that buddy throughout the seminar.

Exercise Puzzled

This is an activity on communication related to team work and group dynamics.

Individual & Group Evaluation of Puzzled

We evaluate and then debrief the learning that occurred as a result of this exercise. The final step is application of learnings to our life and work.

Exercise Once Upon A Time

The object is to have fun while applying the eleven categories of Interactive Verbal Skills while creating a story. This is an instructional tool in how to learn new information in a fun way.

Exercise Team Quiz Lecture

This is an activity to learn content information through an interactive lecture approach. This approach assists in the learning and retention of information. The information the participants will be learning is based on roles, definitions of basic and developmental facilitation, and a self-discovery learning model effective in interactive training.

Assessing Your Group's Discussion

Debriefing tools are important, so I have several different assessment instruments used to increasing awareness of learning that occurred from doing an exercise. This assessment is related to the Team Quiz Lecture.

Roles and Definitions: Facilitator, Instructor, Group Member

Basic & Developmental Facilitation

Self-Discovery Learning Model

These three areas are basic content information related to the tools and roles of interactive training. This is the information used for the Team Quiz Lecture.

Exercise Fish Bowl

As a facilitator one needs to be able to identify and observe group dynamics to determine the appropriate actions to take in assisting a group in being effective. This is an exercise in applying one observation technique and at the same time doing an interactive activity.

Group Evaluation & Self Evaluation for Fish Bowl

Another assessment instrument is used here. Remember each assessment is different to demonstrate the variety of ways one can debrief a group.

Exercise Accolades of Praise!

For a grand finale, group members will focus on positive feedback.

Wrap up!: Questions, Evaluations and Closure

"I recently completed a university credit semester on 'Small Group and Interpersonal Relationships'. Diana provided more in four hours than the entire college course offered!"
